A Prince George’s County high school teacher was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material, according to the Maryland State Police.

Donald Kirk Marchand III, 70, was taken into custody shortly before 8 a.m. at his home in College Park, state police said. Local, state and federal investigators also executed a search warrant and seized evidence from the house.

Marchand was a teacher at Elizabeth Seton High School, an all-girls Catholic school in Bladensburg. The school’s website listed him as a social studies teacher as of Tuesday afternoon, but his photo has since been removed. He worked at other schools prior to Seton, according to state police.

Seton High President Dr. Lisa Grillo said in an emailed statement that Marchand was terminated Tuesday after police contacted the school.

The charges “based on alleged conduct beginning in September 2026 require a removal from our school,” Grillo said in the statement.

“Based on the information shared, we are confident that there is no connection between the charges and our students or other staff,” she continued.

Marchand, whom Grillo referred to as a “short-term faculty member,” was vetted through all Maryland state educational background checks before he was hired.

Marchand’s arrest stems from an investigation initiated earlier this month by the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. When asked about the exact timeline of the investigation leading up to the arrest, state police did not specify.

Marchand is being held at the Prince George’s County Department of Correction, where he is waiting bail review.
