State officials release body camera footage of August fatal police shooting in Suitland

State officials released body and dash camera footage related to the August fatal shooting of a Temple Hills man.

Tawfiq Abdul Haqq, 33, was shot and killed by a Prince George’s County Police officer Aug. 21 in the 4500 block of Reamy Drive in Suitland, according to a news release.

The state attorney general’s Independent Investigations Division previously identified Cpl. Corbin Davis as the only officer who fired a service weapon that night. Corbin has been with the county department for two years, according to a news release from the attorney general.

The Independent Investigations Division released Davis’ dash and body camera footage, as well as dashcam footage from two other officers.

The batch of footage shows multiple Prince George’s County Police vehicles following two other vehicles — a white Honda and a black Tesla — onto a dead-end road.

According to dashcam footage, the driver of the Tesla, later identified as Haqq, drove around Davis’ cruiser and into a residential yard. Davis then got out of his vehicle and gave chase on foot, according to the batch of footage released Monday.

As the Tesla drives through the yard, Davis appears to position himself in the vehicle’s path and point his firearm. He backtracks as the vehicle moves forward.

“Don’t f--kin’ do it! Don’t f--kin’ do it! Don’t f---in’” Davis yelled before firing at least four shots.

The Tesla then crashed into another police cruiser and came to a stop. Other officers worked to remove Haqq from the vehicle and perform lifesaving measures, according to the footage.

Haqq was transported to a hospital, where he later died, according to Prince George’s County Police.

A Prince George’s County Police spokesperson said via email that Davis is on paid administrative leave.

The attorney general’s office is continuing to investigate the fatal shooting to determine whether to bring criminal charges. If the Independent Investigations Division determines there is not enough evidence to charge the officer, it will release a report explaining its decision.
