State investigators on Tuesday named the man who was fatally shot by a Prince George’s County Police officer Friday night in a Suitland neighborhood.

Tawfiq Abdul Haqq, 33, of Temple Hills, died after an officer shot him while he was reportedly driving toward police officers in the 4500 block of Reamy Drive, according to a news release Tuesday from the Maryland Office of the Attorney General.

The attorney general’s office identified the officer as Corbin Davis, who has been with the department for two years and works on the District 4 Special Assignment Team.

The AG’s Independent Investigations Division was still investigating the shooting as of Tuesday.

Prince George’s County Police officers driving marked cruisers followed two vehicles after they turned down Reamy Drive, a dead-end road, on Friday at about 11:35 p.m., according to a social media post from the department early Saturday.

The post did not explain why the officers started following the vehicles.

One of the vehicles drove off the roadway and through a residential yard toward the officers, according to police.

Davis shot the driver of the vehicle, now identified as Abdul Haqq, according to the release, which does not say how many shots the officer fired.

Officers rendered medical aid and Abdul Haqq was transported to a local hospital, where he died, according to the department.

Investigators generally release body-worn camera footage within 20 business days of an incident, though witness interviews, technical delays or allowing time for a victim’s family to view the video can delay its release, according to the attorney general’s office.

The Independent Investigations Division has asked people with information about the incident to call the division at (410) 576-7070 or email IID@oag.maryland.gov.
