A 63-year-old Pasadena woman died in a home fire late Tuesday evening, marking the first fire fatality in Anne Arundel County in 2026.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 300 block of Magothy Beach Road around 10:50 p.m. after a person inside the home called 911. Flames could be seen from the front of the home, according to a news release.

Three people who lived in the house and were outside the building told firefighters that one woman was trapped inside. The woman, who was later identified as Cindy Hill, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The residential street in Pasadena was quiet and rainy the day after the fire.

The home, just down the street from a small neighborhood association playground, was burned out. Its partially collapsed front end stood behind an overgrown metal fence. Burned siding and scorched furniture were strewn on the lawn, and the windows had all been broken.

While the smell of smoke lingered in the damp air, someone had left a bright, colorful bouquet of flowers in front of the home.

Fire crews and units from at least 15 of the county’s 31 stations were pulled to respond to this fire, Anne Arundel County Professional Firefighters Local 1563, a union that represents fire crews in the region, said on social media.

The home fire was in a non-hydrant area, the union said, which required crews to “perform fire attack and search simultaneously, along with tanker shuttle operations and sustained water supply.” It took firefighters about 30 minutes to extinguish the flames.

Anne Arundel County fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire. Smoke detectors were working at the time, according to the release.

Three people were displaced. The American Red Cross and the county’s Mobile Crisis Team are assisting them, according to the news release.
