A Cecil County high school football player is home after being airlifted to a hospital following an injury during the team’s game against Calvert Hall in Towson on Thursday evening, officials said.

The North East High School student-athlete was diagnosed with a concussion, said Jen Shaw, a spokesperson for Cecil County Public Schools. He was evaluated, treated and released from the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center and will follow standard medical protocol before hitting the field again, school officials said.

“School officials express their sincere appreciation to the Baltimore County emergency responders, medical personnel, and the host team at Calvert Hall for their swift response, professionalism, and care on the field,” Shaw said.

Emergency personnel responded to the field in the 8100 block of La Salle Road around 5:40 p.m., Baltimore County Fire Department spokesperson Travis Francis said in an email.

Out of an abundance of caution, emergency responders recommended that the injured player be taken by helicopter to a medical center for specialized evaluation, Shaw said.

“The Calvert Hall community expresses its concern and prayers for the student-athlete, his family, and the [North East] community,” Danielle Hladky, a spokesperson for Calvert Hall, said in an email.

Calvert Hall is a private, Catholic and all-boys school in Towson. North East High School is a public school in North East in Cecil County.
