Navy officials sent out an alert for a “suspicious” person who they said took photos of a closed gate and empty security personnel areas at the Naval Academy on Wednesday morning.
The man, identified by base police as 51-year-old Norman Thomas George, took photos of the gates and locks around 9:50 a.m., according to the alert from U.S. Navy Criminal Investigation Division. When a Naval Academy civilian employee took photos of him, George quickly left the area, the alert said. The employee then alerted the base police.
George was driving a rented red 2025 Jeep Compass Limited with a Georgia registration. He picked up the vehicle from Enterprise Rental at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Feb. 26 and is expected to return it to the Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix on March 28.
Naval Support Activity Annapolis asked the public to contact Detective George Sangriu at 202-607-7744 if George is seen near other military installations or government buildings within the capital area.
