A man died after being struck by a Maryland Transit Administration train in Baltimore Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

Baltimore City Fire Department personnel were called to the 700 block of East Baltimore Street at Shot Tower Station around 2:15 p.m. to rescue a man who had been struck by an MTA train, spokesperson John Marsh said in an email.

First responders extracted and rendered aid to the man, Marsh said, before he died.

Train service has been suspended at the station, officials said.

MTA has put a bus bridge in place from Lexington Market to Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The MTA police is investigating the incident.

At the Shot Tower metro station entryway near Port Discovery Children’s Museum, the escalators were stopped and the door was sealed shut.

A few workers and students were left trying to find alternative ways to their destinations.

Around half a dozen Baltimore Police officers and several MTA safety personnel lingered around the opposite entryway, which was marked off by yellow tape.

Baltimore Police Department and MTA cruisers, a forensics van and Maryland Department of Transportation trucks were posted in the area as officials assessed the scene.
