The body of a man who jumped into Rock Creek in Anne Arundel County on Sunday and didn’t resurface has been recovered, according to the state Department of Natural Resources.

Dive teams from the Maryland Natural Resources Police and Anne Arundel County Fire Department recovered the body Monday evening at about 5:45 p.m. Authorities have identified the man as David Lawrence Jones, 52, of Silver Spring.

Jones was reported missing Sunday afternoon near the mouth of Rock Creek, adjacent to Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Park in Pasadena.

Officials said seven people were on a pontoon boat when Jones jumped off it to retrieve his hat after it fell into the water. He was not wearing a life vest at the time, according to authorities.

The body was transported to the state medical examiner’s office in Baltimore for an autopsy. Natural Resources Police are still investigating.
