Severe storms possible this week

Rain will continue to hit Baltimore and most of Maryland through the rest of the week, so keep umbrellas and rain jackets nearby.

Thunderstorms continue to affect the area in short spurts, with damaging wind gusts and flash flooding as the primary threats, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday evening storms wreaked havoc on much of the state.

Trees toppled over, and thousands temporarily lost power, according to Baltimore Gas and Electric. Flights at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport were delayed for hours. Tornado warnings blared through cellphones, and BTS fans at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore were forced to take shelter before a concert.

With similar storms imminent, Marylanders have been warned to be cautious as the storm system passes through the region and the state prepares for what’s ahead.

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation is giving out sandbags to those who wish to minimize potential flood damage. Meteorologists with the weather service are advising residents to remain vigilant for impending storms and to have shelter available when they strike.
