A bus driver died in a single-vehicle crash in Brandywine Thursday night, Maryland State Police said.

The bus crashed into a tree, according to local media reports, shortly after 9:30 p.m. on southbound U.S. Route 301 at Dyson Road.

The driver, Kyi Swe, 73, of Pikesville, was the only occupant of a 2027 Blue Bird School Bus, police said. Swe was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Lanes were closed for about two hours for the crash investigation. Representatives for Blue Bird could not be immediately reached for comment Friday morning.

A spokesperson for Prince George’s County Public Schools said in a statement that the bus was not a district school bus nor was it operated by the school system.
