Kaylee Hottle, the teenage actor who played Jia in “Godzilla vs. Kong” and its sequel, died in a single-vehicle crash in Frederick County early Tuesday morning.

A 19-year-old Frederick man was driving the vehicle, a 1995 Honda Accord, at the time of the crash, according to a news release from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 2:52 a.m., the vehicle veered from a two-lane roadway at the 11400 block of Windsor Road in Ijamsville and struck a culvert, according to the release. Investigators said speeding may have been a factor in the crash.

Hottle, a passenger in the car, was taken to a hospital, where she died, police said. The driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and another passenger declined medical treatment.

Joshua and Ketsi Hottle, the actor’s parents, released tearful videos on Tuesday following their daughter’s death, speaking in American Sign Language. Her father said in his post that he was “taking a flight that I never would like to take” from Texas to Maryland. Her mom said, “Privilege to be your mom, Kaylee Hottle.”

Hottle, 19, was born in Atlanta to an “all-deaf family, spanning four generations of deaf relatives on her father’s side,” according to her IMDb profile. She is best-known for her role as Jia in the 2021 movie “Godzilla vs. Kong” and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” released in 2024. She also acted in a handful of commercials and television series.

She attended the Texas School for the Deaf, which told its community it had to “share the heartbreaking news” that Hottle had died.

“Our hearts are with Kaylee’s family, friends, classmates, and everyone who knew and loved her during this incredibly difficult time,” the school said.
