A home in Gaithersburg caught fire Saturday morning, possibly after lightning struck it, fire officials said.

Firefighters responded just after 7 a.m. to the 9200 block of Warfield Road, said David Pazos, a spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

All five people in the home made it out safely but two first responders suffered injuries that are not life-threatening, he said.

Flames were bursting through the roof when crews arrived, and eventually sections of the roof collapsed. Pazos said firefighters used 15,000 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze.

The large, white home, which sits atop a grassy hill off a suburban road, was charred and the second floor severely damaged, according to photos and video shared by Pazos.

It’s not clear what caused the fire. However, residents said there were lightning strikes in the area throughout the morning, Pazos said.
