A man died Friday after Hagerstown Police officers shot him while responding to an apartment fire.

Members of the Hagerstown Fire Department arrived at an apartment in the unit block of Randolph Avenue around 4:50 p.m. when they encountered the man inside and requested police assistance, according to the Maryland Attorney General’s Office.

When officers set up a perimeter, the man ran out of the house toward them. Officers gave verbal commands and deployed Tasers before firing their service weapons, officials said.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Two knives were recovered at the scene, officials said. No officers were injured.
