It was not their typical pursuit but, in the end, Baltimore County Police officers got their cow.
Police said in a social media post that early Wednesday afternoon officers began to receive reports of an animal on the loose — a cow.
Calls began rolling into the police department. The first sighting was on Hambleton Court.
Then callers reported seeing the cow moseying down Old Court Road and Greenspring Avenue.
Officers located the cow in a Pikesville neighborhood, but it wasn’t quite ready to go back to the farm. It darted from the woods and hopped on Interstate 695, the Baltimore Beltway. Video footage showed the cow trotting along the far-right lane as a truck with a trailer slowly followed.

Working with the cow’s owner, two county police officers, D. Royster and D. Bailey of Precinct 4, used rope from one of their patrol cars to wrangle the cow and get it off the road. It belongs to a farm on Old Court Road.
“The cow remained in custody until another farmhand arrived on scene with a trailer to transport the subject from the scene,” police said in a social media post.
Baltimore County Police did not respond to a request for comment.
The department expressed its thanks on Facebook to those “who assisted in bringing this call to a safe conclusion. There were no injuries reported.”
