A man driving the wrong way down a stretch of highway in Howard County early Saturday morning collided with another, killing them both at the scene, police said.
The men, 37-year-old Taleb Ait Zakariae of Rosedale, and 47-year-old Timothy Summerville Jr. of Baltimore, were both on northbound Interstate 95 when they crashed around 4:30 a.m., according to a news release from Maryland Department of State Police.
State police said that Zakariae was driving in the wrong direction in a 2025 Jeep Gladiator. Summerville, who was driving a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was in the same lane as Zakariae but going northbound, according to the news release. The two collided around the 44-mile marker near Elkridge.
Alcohol and speed may have a factor in the crash, police said.
The northbound lanes on I-95 were shut down for several hours and reopened around 10:30 a.m., according to the Maryland Department of Transportation.
