One person is dead and another was critically injured in a crash around midnight on Saturday in Montgomery County, police said.
Officers responded to the crash on the 7100 block of Glenbrook Road in Bethesda around 12:05 a.m., according to a news release from the Montgomery County Police Department.
The driver of the vehicle, a 2022 white Toyota Venza, veered off Glenbrook Road, then hit a pole and a tree, police said. It was not immediately clear why the driver left the road.
The adult man driving the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, and the adult passenger was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to the news release.
The stretch of road where the crash happened is a narrow, residential street mostly lined by trees, fences and mailboxes.
The crash is under investigation. Police did not immediately release the name of the driver who died in the crash.
The accident is the 17th fatal crash to happen in Montgomery County this year, according to data collected by the county.
