A person was found dead Tuesday night in Cherry Hill as firefighters were called to battle a blaze at an apartment building.
The Baltimore City Fire Department and city police responded to an apartment fire at the 2300 block of Round Road just after 10:00 p.m. Tuesday. The fire was brought under control shortly thereafter, but firefighters said they found a deceased person at the scene.
On Wednesday, Baltimore police said responding officers were advised of a dead, unidentified man inside the building. The man’s remains were taken to the medical examiner’s office. Homicide detectives are investigating the death.
The man has not yet been identified, and his cause of death remains unclear.
Disaster responders with Red Cross of the National Capital and Greater Chesapeake Region will meet with roughly 10 families impacted by the fire to offer mental health and emotional support, financial aid and help to replace medications and other essential items.
“Our team will work with our Baltimore city partners to ensure that residents are supported in the days and weeks ahead,” Bethany Bray Patterson, a spokesperson for the Red Cross, said in an email.
The fire department didn’t immediately respond to a request for additional comment. The blaze remains under investigation.
