A Baltimore police officer shot and killed a dog in the Harlem Park neighborhood Friday evening after it attacked two women and their dog, police said.

The officer was near the 1200 block of West Franklin Street around 7:30 p.m. when he saw two dogs chasing two women and their dog, according to a news release from the Baltimore Police Department.

One of the dogs chasing the women fled while the other attacked them, according to the release. The officer attempted to use a Taser on the dog that was attacking them, but the Taser “proved to be ineffective” and the dog continued to attack the women’s dog, police said. The officer then fatally shot the dog.

Animal Control took the dog’s remains and helped treat the other dog that was attacked.

The Baltimore Police Department’s Special Investigations Response Team is investigating. The department said it will release any footage or audio of the fatal incident as part of its “Public Release of Critical Incident Recordings Policy.”

In March, a pit bull was euthanized after it attacked its owner, then charged at officers who shot the dog.
