A 14-year-old boy died after the electric motorcycle he was riding on the Trail in Anne Arundel County struck a pickup truck at a crossing.
The county police department said in a news release that officers responded around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday for a collision involving an e-moto and a Dodge Ram 1500 at the bike trail’s crossing with Robinson Road in Severna Park.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates the e-moto was traveling southbound on the bike trail when it struck the side of the pickup truck, which was traveling eastbound on Robinson Road.
The 14-year-old boy, who was from Severna Park, was flown to a hospital, where he died Thursday. The 49-year-old driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
The police department’s crash team is investigating.
Marc Limansky, a spokesperson for the police department, said e-motos, which he said can travel upward of 45 mph, are not permitted on bike and walking trails.
He called the teen’s death a “heartbreaking tragedy.”
