Baltimore County Police on Sunday charged a 41-year-old man after the fatal shooting of his father-in-law in a quiet neighborhood in Phoenix, officers said.
The suspect, Mark Thomas Ryan of Bel Air, has been charged with first-degree murder and the use of a firearm, online court records show. Ryan is being held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
The victim, 74-year-old Robert W. MacMeekin, was an attorney at Fine, Kelly & MacMeekin in Timonium, online records show. MacMeekin received his law degree from the University of Baltimore in 1975, according to the firm’s website, where online reviews praised his legal acumen and his “straight forward, fast paced” style.
The Banner contacted the law firm for comment.
Officers responded around 2:25 p.m. Saturday to the tree-lined Millgate community in Northern Baltimore County, where MacMeekin had lived since at least 1991, according to property records. There, they said, MacMeekin was pronounced dead at the scene and the incident appeared “domestic related.”
Police have not offered more information into the motive or whether there were others present at the time of the shooting.
Online court records show Ryan waived having an attorney present at his initial appearance Sunday. A bail/bond review hearing was scheduled for Monday afternoon, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for this month.
