Baltimore Police are searching for a 56-year-old man who escaped from police custody at a hospital Friday evening after officers say they found him in possession of a firearm following a car crash.

Brian Myers, 56, was hospitalized after the crash, said Chakia Fennoy, a spokesperson for the Baltimore Police Department.

When officers responded to the crash, they found that Myers was in possession of a firearm that he is prohibited from having because of a prior conviction, Fennoy said. He was placed in police custody and taken to an area hospital.

Around 7:28 p.m. Friday, police said they learned that Myers left the hospital and got into a vehicle. There is a warrant out for his arrest, Fennoy said.

Myers has been convicted on assault and theft charges in the past, according to Maryland’s court records.
