A Baltimore County Police officer who was shot twice, including once in the head, while responding to a call for a flasher in a Pikesville park earlier this month, has been released from the hospital.
Officer P. Catalfamo was escorted out of the Maryland Shock Trauma Center late Wednesday night by a small group of family members and fellow officers. Baltimore County officials declined to provide additional details regarding his treatment and recovery, citing a desire to give him privacy.
“Officer Catalfamo has demonstrated remarkable strength, determination, and resilience,” officials said in a news release.
Family members said that growing up as a Boy Scout taught Catalfamo many lessons in service, leadership and integrity that later proved invaluable in shaping his career as a police officer, according to the release.
Police have since identified Shaka Kamara as the armed flasher who shot Catalfamo. He has been charged with numerous crimes, including attempted first-degree murder, assault and several gun offenses, including possession of a firearm with a felony conviction.
Police said Catalfamo was called to the Milford Mill Gwynn Falls Trail in Villa Nova Park the morning of June 7 for a report of indecent exposure.

Upon arriving, he encountered the suspect, who began to flee. After a short foot chase, Catalfamo caught up with Kamara, who shot him and fled again.
According to police, Kamara came across a couple on the trail while running away. He threatened to kill the pair and robbed the man of a gun, officials said. While that was happening, more officers arrived at the park.
One officer ran toward Kamara and the couple, inquiring where the suspect and injured officer were. At that point, court records said Kamara began shooting at the officer, prompting them to exchange fire. Kamara was shot, as was one of the bystanders.
Police took Catalfamo, Kamara and the civilian to nearby hospitals to be treated.
Kamara is being held without bail and is due back in court on July 1.
