Maryland State Police detained a person of interest just hours after announcing their search for a man accused of carrying out three shootings between Monday night and Tuesday morning, officials said.

A man wearing a dark sweatshirt and light-colored pants driving a red or burgundy Dodge Challenger or Charger is on investigators’ radar after he fired at other vehicles along Maryland Route 5 and Interstates 495 and 95, state police said in a news release.

One driver’s vehicle was hit by gunfire while they were on Maryland Route 5 at Allentown Road around 10:35 p.m. Monday, officials said.

About 15 minutes later, another driver’s car was struck by multiple rounds of gunfire as they were driving northbound on the Maryland Route 5 ramp to the Outer Loop of I-495/I-95. The alleged gunman was standing outside of a stationary vehicle on the right shoulder of the highway when he began shooting, police said.

Then, just before 1:30 a.m., police said the alleged gunman shot someone while they were driving southbound on I-495/I-95 at Ardwick Ardmore Road. The man, who is the only person that was hit in either of these incidents, drove himself to the hospital for treatment, state police said.

The Prince Geroge’s County Police Department responded to the incidents, too, state officials said. The department did not immediately respond to The Banner’s request for comment.
