State police arrested a 59-year-old Mount Airy man for impersonating a police officer and attempting to pull over another vehicle on the highway, officials said.
Eric Baummer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on another vehicle while driving on the outer loop of Interstate 695 at Washington Boulevard in Baltimore County, according to a news release from Maryland State Police. The driver whom Baummer attempted to pull over called 911 around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday when Baummer’s black 2014 Ford Explorer began flashing blue and white lights behind him, police said.
The driver who reported Baummer was identified as an off-duty military law enforcement officer, according to the news release.
Eventually, Baummer drove ahead of the off-duty officer and changed lanes to get in front of him. He exited I-695, and the off-duty officer, who was still on the phone with police, followed him to a gas station on the 4300 block of Hollins Ferry Road in Lansdowne.
State troopers and the Baltimore County Police Department responded to the gas station, where Baummer was arrested.
State police said they are continuing their investigation.
