A Howard County Circuit Court judge sentenced a 39-year-old man Wednesday for his role in a father-son firearms trafficking operation.

Martese Kosh, of Frederick, was arrested along with his father in November 2025 following a monthslong-investigation during which undercover police purchased firearms from the duo. Kosh pleaded no contest to 10 weapon charges. He apologized for his actions and told the court that he had a substance abuse problem.

Administrative Judge William Tucker said he appreciated that Kosh had taken responsibility, but described the operation as “one of the most serious things you can do.” He also said he considered that Kosh had several other convictions, including for a gun charge.

Tucker sentenced Kosh to 30 years’ incarceration with all but 14 years suspended and an additional five years to be served concurrently. He gave Kosh credit for 293 days already served in jail and ordered him to complete treatment for drug and alcohol abuse.

In July 2025, police received a tip that firearms were being sold illegally in and around the county. Undercover officers then purchased weapons from Kosh and learned he was working with his father, Ronald Kosh, of Ellicott City.

Authorities said the 60-year-old was selling fentanyl, crack cocaine and heroin, and charged him with 11 counts of weapons and drug charges. Ronald Kosh pleaded guilty to two charges in March and is scheduled to appear again on Sept. 24.
