A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder for a shooting near a homecoming youth football event that killed a 12-year-old girl this past weekend, authorities said Tuesday
Tyree Reynolds faces charges of murder, attempted murder, assault and reckless endangerment in the shooting that killed Khloe Ishway and injured four others on Saturday, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley and Mayor Brandon Scott announced in a joint statement. Police said Reynolds has not been booked and remains hospitalized, recovering from injuries.
Officials said two men exchanged gunfire following a dispute over a parking space at a youth football league’s homecoming game at Leon Day Park in Southwest Baltimore on Saturday. Police have not announced a second arrest.
“Khloe’s tragic death is a painful reminder of the responsibility we all share to protect our children and keep our communities safe. Young people and families should never have to fear becoming victims in places where they should feel safe,” officials said in the joint release.
Khloe’s death has sparked outrage and heartbreak among community members, hundreds of whom marched from West North Avenue to Leon Day Park wearing custom T-shirts with the child’s face on them, saying that one life lost is too many.
