7 people, including a 3-year-old boy, shot in Washington Hill neighborhood

Seven people were shot, including a three-year-old boy, in Baltimore’s Washington Hill neighborhood on Wednesday night, police and city officials said.

Police Commissioner Richard Worley said that all of the victims had non-life-threatening injuries. Police said they were still looking for the suspect or suspects.

Baltimore Police officers responded shortly after 9 p.m. to a report of multiple people shot in the 1400 block of East Fayette Street, department spokesperson Vernon Davis said in an email. The shooting occurred just blocks from Johns Hopkins Hospital.

“Every single soul in Baltimore should be asking if they know anything about the cowards who shot these seven people, most notably, a three-year-old little boy,” an angry Mayor Brandon Scott said at news conference. “There is no way [for] those individuals, there is no way for you to reclaim humanity after doing that.”

Police did not share other victims’ ages or relationships to one another.

The large police response led to the closure of East Fayette and North Caroline streets. Police tape was double wrapped around light poles, trees and a bus stop.

The area, typically well-lit and active with two gas stations nearby, had become quiet as more than a dozen police cars blocked off nearly every corner surrounding Douglas Homes.

Audio obtained from the initial dispatch calls indicated that the crime scene was large as there were multiple rounds of gunshots and shell casings across North Caroline Street.
