A third suspect — who eluded authorities for almost six months — was arrested this week in connection with the death of a North Bethesda man in September, Montgomery County Police said Wednesday.

Justin Michael Greene Collins, 25, of Silver Spring, was taken into custody on Tuesday.

Collins is the third suspect arrested in connection with the Sept. 21 death of 29-year-old Akwalabeng Fontava, who was fatally shot in his North Bethesda apartment.

After the shooting, a man and a woman inside Fontava’s apartment were allegedly kidnapped from it.

Montgomery detectives working with a U.S. marshals task force, along with Montgomery officers with the Special Assignment Team, first saw Collins at a home in District Heights, Prince George’s County, before his arrest in Washington, D.C.

The two other suspects in the case are Joshua Carter, of Silver Spring, and Sheldon Milan Boykins, of Hyattsville.

Carter was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Fontava’s death. Boykins is not charged with murder, but faces kidnapping and handgun charges, according to online court records from Montgomery County’s Circuit Court.

Boykins was arrested the day of the killing. Carter was arrested in Fayetteville, North Carolina, at a relative’s home. He was extradited to Montgomery County on Oct. 24, police said.

Boykins and Carter are held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit as they await trial.

Collins’ mother, Shatym Neko Sanderson, 46, of Silver Spring, was arrested on Nov. 12 and charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder, police said.

Detectives determined that Sanderson provided financial support to her son as he evaded law enforcement, police said.

Sanderson was released in January on a $5,000 unsecured personal bond.

Collins was being held in Washington, D.C., on handgun possession charges related to his arrest.
