A Silver Spring woman pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter connected to an August crash that killed an 85-year-old woman and seriously injured a second person, according to county prosecutors.
Jesica Argueta, 23, faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and her sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 16, the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office said Thursday in a statement.
Argueta on Wednesday pleaded guilty to one count of vehicular manslaughter by gross negligence and one count of second-degree assault.
On Aug. 7, Argueta was weaving in and out of morning rush-hour traffic at more than 80 mph in a 40-mph zone. She was driving a Toyota GR86 before the sports car struck a Toyota 4Runner, critically injuring Josephine Gieske, who was in the front passenger seat. The driver of the 4Runner was seriously injured, prosecutors said.
The victims were driving home from church and headed eastbound on Randolph Road when the 4Runner attempted to turn left onto Sherwood Forest Drive in Colesville.
Gieske died from her injuries on Aug. 22, prosecutors said.
Argueta’s attorney could not immediately be reached for comment on Thursday afternoon.
