Days before 15-year-old Giovanna Myrie and her younger brother, Steve Allen, were found shot to death in their Gwynn Oak home, the 16-year-old now charged with killing them allegedly threatened to kill her if she cheated on him, according to newly released court documents.

The suspect, a teenager from Baltimore, communicated with Myrie through social media for weeks before the shooting, according to investigators with the Baltimore County Police Department. A friend of Myrie told investigators that the suspect said he “would have to kill” Myrie if she “messed around with other guys.” During a FaceTime call with Myrie on July 4, the friend saw the suspect holding a handgun while in bed with Myrie at her home, investigators said.

The Banner is not naming the suspect because of his age.

On July 6, one day before the shooting, Myrie texted her friend that the suspect “said if I cheat he finna put the gun inside me. Help me.”

Through cellphone records, city surveillance footage and Maryland Transit Administration video, investigators were able to place the suspect at Myrie’s home on the 6100 block of Talles Road on the evening of July 7. The suspect arrived at the home around 4:19 p.m. and left about an hour later, according to charging documents.

The mother of Myrie and Allen arrived home from work around 7:20 p.m., found her kids and called 911, police said.

Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough said he could only speculate that the 9-year-old was involved because he was a witness. McCullough added that it was unclear how the 16-year-old suspect got a gun.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday morning and is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center. Police said he was charged with first-degree murder as an adult. The arrest happened one day after a funeral Mass for the two children at St. Casimir Church in the Canton neighborhood.
