The owner of a Glen Burnie takeout restaurant who is accused of first-degree murder in a weekend shooting called police himself, according to charging documents.
Ioannis Georgios Giorgakis, 32, was arrested over the weekend and charged in the killing of Michael Joseph Hayes, 27, of Glen Burnie, outside Hilltop Pizza & Subs on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard.
Giorgakis was ordered held without bond at a Monday hearing, according to online court records. An attorney listed for Giorgakis did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
He is charged with first- and second-degree murder and using a firearm during a felony. Giorgakis faces life in prison if convicted of first-degree murder.
Giorgakis called police shortly before 9:15 p.m. Saturday. He said he shot someone outside the business and identified himself as the owner, according to police charging documents.
Anne Arundel County Police had received two calls for service earlier that day about Hayes “causing a disturbance” at the business, but the charging documents did not specify what time those calls were made or what kind of response they received.

Video footage showed Hayes exit the building, followed by Giorgakis and another employee, and Hayes appeared to be yelling or talking, police wrote. Hayes then took a “fighting stance” with his fists raised.
Giorgakis kicked Hayes in the “hip area,” police wrote, and after stumbling back, Hayes advanced toward Giorgakis. Giorgakis then “fired a handgun multiple times at Hayes.”
Hayes was seen running toward the road, where police found him. Police said they found three cartridge casings.
Police said that when officers arrived at the restaurant, a crowd of people had gathered outside the business. Police asked who had the gun, and Giorgakis said he did and put his hands up. Police searched Giorgakis, took the handgun and detained him.
In a statement posted online Sunday, the restaurant said it was cooperating with police in the investigation and that it would be closed for a few days.
