A jury convicted an MS-13 member in the gang-initiated killing of a man in Silver Spring in 2022.
Carlo Yaque del Cid, 32, was found guilty on Monday of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Edvin Agustin Leon, according to a statement from the Montgomery County Stateβs Attorneyβs Office.
The Montgomery County Circuit Court jury also found Yaque del Cid, of Hyattsville, guilty of attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the shooting of a second victim.
That victim, shot multiple times, survived by pretending to be dead and then crawled a quarter-mile in a park before neighbors called 911.
Yaque del Cid faces a life in prison without parole when he is sentenced in June. Prosecutors argued that he ordered the shooting of the victims but did not shoot them himself.
βWe are very disappointed,β said Douglas Wood, Yaque del Cidβs attorney. βI thought there certainly was reasonable doubt.β

Two shootings
Montgomery County Police worked with the Baltimore FBI on the incident, which occurred in a wooded area of Northwest Stream Valley Park, near the 9000 block of Piney Branch Road.
βTwo higher-ranked members of MS-13 provided firearms to three lower-ranked members and directed them to shoot and kill the two victims,β prosecutors said.
