After more than six months, a group of Baltimore Police officers, including a district commander, remain suspended with pay as a criminal investigation in San Francisco continues.
Maj. Jai Etwaroo, the commander of the Eastern District, and three officers — Juan Rivas, Angel Villaronga and Jahmoor Acosta — were suspended in November by Baltimore Police after they were placed under investigation in San Francisco.
The Banner first reported on the suspensions and the investigation in November. The San Francisco Chronicle later reported, citing sources, that the case was being investigated by the San Francisco Police Department’s Special Victims’ Unit. Investigators in the SVU are dedicated to crimes involving especially vulnerable victims, including sexual assault, child or elder abuse, domestic violence and human trafficking.
Earlier this week, San Francisco police spokesman Robert Rueca declined to answer questions about the probe, saying that “at this time we are not releasing any information due to the open investigation.”
The officers are suspended from their normal police duties, assigned to administrative duties while the investigation is “ongoing,” Baltimore Police spokeswoman Lindsey Eldridge said.
The nature of the investigation has not been disclosed, and no charges have been filed.
Chaz Ball, an attorney for the police union, declined to comment.
