After more than six months, a group of Baltimore Police officers, including a district commander, remain suspended with pay as a criminal investigation in San Francisco continues.

Maj. Jai Etwaroo, commander of the Eastern District, and three officers — Juan Rivas, Angel Villaronga and Jahmoor Acosta — were suspended in November after being placed under investigation in San Francisco.

The Banner first reported on the suspensions and investigation in November. The San Francisco Chronicle later reported, citing sources, that the case was being investigated by the San Francisco Police Department’s Special Victims Unit. Investigators in the SVU are dedicated to crimes involving especially vulnerable victims, including sexual assault, child or elder abuse, domestic violence and human trafficking.

Earlier this week, San Francisco police spokesperson Robert Rueca declined to answer questions about the probe, saying that “at this time we are not releasing any information due to the open investigation.”

The officers are suspended from their normal police duties and assigned to administrative roles while the investigation is “ongoing,” Baltimore Police spokesperson Lindsey Eldridge said.

The nature of the investigation has not been disclosed, and no charges have been filed.

Chaz Ball, an attorney for the police union, declined to comment.
