A man who escaped police after being taken into custody for possessing a firearm last week has been apprehended, authorities announced on Wednesday.

The man, 56-year-old Brian Meyers, was spotted walking down the 900 block of Harlem Avenue Tuesday evening when he was rearrested by officers in the Western District, police said.

Officers initially arrested Meyers at the scene of a car crash on Friday and took him to a local hospital to be treated for an injury. That’s when he dodged police, slipped out of the hospital and got into a vehicle.

What type of injury he was being treated for remains unclear. On Wednesday, police said he was taken to the hospital again to get continued care for his earlier injury. Once his treatment is complete, Meyers will be taken to Central Booking to face charges for his evasion. He will also face other charges for robbery and handgun violations, the police said.

How Meyers was able to flee police custody remains uncertain. Police have not yet responded to The Banner’s inquiry, but said the circumstances surrounding his escape were under investigation.
