Tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm threats and a statewide hazardous weather outlook blanketed Maryland on Wednesday evening, leaving around 12,000 people without power.

Baltimore City and Baltimore County were under a tornado warning until 7:45 p.m., the National Weather Service and state emergency management officials shared on social media.

Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties were under severe thunderstorm warnings until 8 p.m. as 60-70 mph winds and hail threatened the area. Officials issued severe thunderstorm warnings for Cecil, Kent and Queen Anne’s counties until 8:30 p.m.

Around 12,000 people, mostly in Baltimore City and Baltimore and Howard counties, were without power around 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to Baltimore Gas and Electric’s outage map. Outside of homes, heavy winds shut down traffic lights in Baltimore County, police said. Officials warned people to drive with caution and treat the broken lights like an intersection.

There was also a hazardous-weather outlook for Central Maryland in effect until 9 p.m.

Rain will likely continue overnight through Thursday morning, Rosa said, and it’ll stay windy. Thursday will likely see a high of 48 and a low of 35, and temperatures are expected to stay in the 40s and 50s through the weekend.
