    The blunt-spoken Zell made a fortune in real estate but his 2007 acquisition of the Tribune Co., including some of the nation’s best-known newspapers, resulted in the media giant filing for bankruptcy.

    Many Black residents haven’t felt the Preakness was for them. That’s starting to change.
    The Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the famed Triple Crown, attracts tens of thousands of people to Pimlico Race Course in Northwest Baltimore. But the racial optics of the big day have reflected a noticeable divide between the city’s white and Black populations. Initiatives such as AfroPreak Lounge and other efforts to help draw more diverse crowds are starting to pay off, according to organizers.

    Three workers hospitalized from steam pipe explosion in downtown Baltimore, officials say
    Crews were working to install a gas line when a water main was struck and broke, leading to a steam pipe explosion Sunday evening in downtown Baltimore.

    The mystery of the disappearing koi fish in Howard County
    Multiple Columbia, Maryland, residents reported that their koi fish ponds, which had dozens of fish, were wiped clean of any aquatic life – something they all said has never happened their more than 20 years of owning koi fish. Residents think the fish were stolen, koi fish experts think predators ate the fish, and others aren’t so sure.
    Steve Steurer is one of a group of Columbia, MD, residents who reported more than 30 koi fish had been stolen from their backyard ponds near the end of March. Steurer has had his pond for 25 years, and says nothing like this has ever happened before. He recently replaced his koi fish, and installed security cameras around his house. Neither residents nor pet store owners know if it was an animal or a human that stole them.

    “We’re hitting peak die out of our ash trees,” Dan Coy, chief of forestry for the city’s Department of Recreation and Parks, said. “Meaning like our large mature ash trees that are untreated, are going to be dying pretty rapidly.”

    James Webb Space Telescope produces amazing images of rings around a nearby star
    New images offer the first look at a complex ring system of inner belts that surround a young, nearby star.
    This image of the dusty debris disk surrounding the young star Fomalhaut is from Webb’s Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI). It reveals three nested belts extending out to 14 billion miles (23 billion kilometers) from the star. The inner belts – which had never been seen before – were revealed by Webb for the first time.

The Hubble Space Telescope and Herschel Space Observatory, as well as the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), have previously taken sharp images of the outermost belt. However, none of them found any structure interior to it.

These belts most likely are carved by the gravitational forces produced by unseen planets.
