    Solemn night: Residents remember Baltimore’s homicide victims with prayer walk in the rain
    A West Baltimore priest on Monday led a group of Baltimore residents on a prayer walk to remember the 258 people who have died by homicide in the city in 2023. The walk included a reading of the names of victims, who ranged from 2 to 80.
    A vigil was held at St. Joseph's Monastery Parish to honor the homicide victims of this year. The names and ages of the victims were read aloud before a short walk to My Brother’s Keeper a few blocks away.

    For bystander shot by Baltimore Police, the trauma hasn’t faded
    Luis Rodriguez filed a lawsuit Thursday against the Baltimore Police Department for what his attorney Malcolm Ruff described as a “traumatic and unnecessary” injury. The suit claims gross negligence and battery, and it requests a jury trial.
    Luis Rodriguez was shot through the arm 3 years ago, by police during a shootout at the supermarket he worked in. He was the one casualty of that day. Years later he still suffers from chronic pain and anxiety and depression, caused by a single shot through the arm his lawyer claims was negligent and totally unnecessary. The officer who shot him mistook him for the suspect. Rodriguez is filing suit against the BPD, claiming gross negligence.
    With Baltimore homicides dropping below 300, who gets to take credit?
    Even with the reduction in killings — Baltimore will record its lowest homicide total since tallying 211 in 2014 — the city’s murder rate remains among the highest in the nation and is similar to what it was in the 1990s.
