Quarterback Lamar Jackson was missing at the start of Ravens practice Wednesday as he continues to recover from an ankle injury that has sidelined him for the past 10 days.
Rookie wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane, a training camp standout who was placed on injured reserve after a Week 1 wrist injury, was back at practice after being designated to return.
Outside linebacker Trey Hendrickson, who hadn’t played or practiced since undergoing an operation on his finger after Week 3, also returned to practice. Coach Jesse Minter said Monday that he would be “chomping at the bit” to return for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
Center Cam Jurgens, acquired last Wednesday in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, made his Ravens practice debut. After entering the NFL’s concussion protocol last week, following the Eagles’ Week 4 game versus the Los Angeles Rams, he took the field in a red non-contact jersey.
Jackson’s availability for this week remains unclear. He missed practice last week and Sunday’s win over the Atlanta Falcons because of a sprained ankle he suffered in Week 4 win against the Tennessee Titans. Minter said Monday that Jackson, one of the NFL’s most impactful early-season players, is “definitely doing better.” But he was unsure whether Jackson would practice Wednesday.
“He is doing everything he can” to return, said Minter, who’s noted before that Jackson doesn’t need a full week of practice to be activated on game day. “I think we will know more definitely by the middle of the week.”
If Jackson is unavailable Sunday, the Ravens would turn to backup Tyler Huntley, who’s won his past three starts. Huntley went 24-for-32 for 201 yards and two touchdowns and had a rushing touchdown on a sneak play in the overtime win over Atlanta.
Wide receiver Rashod Bateman, tight end Matt Hibner (hand) and defensive lineman Calais Campbell were also missing at practice Wednesday.
