Ravens coach Jesse Minter will be among the special guests at Camden Yards for Thursday’s opening day festivities.
The newly hired Ravens coach will serve as a “guest splasher” during the bottom of the second inning, spraying water at fans sitting in sections 84 and 86 in left field.
First pitch is scheduled at 3:05 p.m., and gates will open for fans to enter the ballpark at noon. The parking lots open at 11 a.m. The Orioles recommend fans to be in their seats by 2:30 p.m. to be ready for the on-field opening day presentation, which will be emceed by broadcaster Kevin Brown.
But before the players run down the orange carpet from center field, there will be much for fans to do at and around Camden Yards. DJ Mighty Mark will play music in Maryland Square outside gates A and C from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Orioles Hall of Famers Al Bumbry and Joe Orsulak will be in that location, 1-2 p.m., signing autographs free of charge.
Inside the ballpark, a live ice sculptor will work on a polar bear sculpture and Orioles logos from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Legends Park by the Cal Ripken Jr. statue.
The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Arthur Green, a 109-year-old veteran who was named the Mo Gaba Fan of the Year in December.
And Broadway performer India Boone will perform the national anthem. Boone currently appears in the nationally touring show “TINA: The Tina Turner Musical” as the iconic singer, and she previously toured across the country in “The Book of Mormon.” Boone is a Baltimore native who began her musical theatre career in the Baltimore County Public School system.
Accompanying Boone will be longtime Baltimore resident Bobbie Soellner, who will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” in sign language.
The national anthem will again include a ceremonial flag drop from the batter’s eye in center field. The American flag is a replica of the one that flew over Fort McHenry the day Francis Scott Key wrote “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and Fort McHenry rangers, employees, and national monument volunteers will help unfurl the flag.
The performance will be punctuated by a flyover of Bell UH-1N Twin Huey helicopters from Joint Base Andrews.
