There’s never a dull moment with the Orioles, and the flurry of pregame news continued with two injury updates and a game time change.

First pitch of Wednesday’s series finale against the New York Yankees was moved from 6:35 p.m. to 1:05 p.m. due to the potential for rain. Gates will open to fans at noon. Before that occurs, though, Baltimore needs to find a way to get healthy.

Left-hander Grant Wolfram became the 18th Orioles player to land on the injured list this season when his low back strain prompted a 15-day stint. And shortly before first pitch, the Orioles scratched outfielder Dylan Beavers from the lineup because of right oblique discomfort.

Right-hander Tyler Wells was recalled to fill Wolfram’s roster spot and Colton Cowser entered the lineup to play center field instead of Beavers.

Twelve players are currently on the injured list. Baltimore seems to have avoided an issue with catcher Samuel Basallo, who returned to the lineup Tuesday after he was was scratched before Monday’s game with knee discomfort.

The Orioles still have three left-handers in the bullpen because Josh Walker was added this week. Losing Wolfram for any period of time isn’t ideal, however. He holds a 4.85 ERA in 13 innings with 20 strikeouts and one walk. His injured list placement is retroactive to May 9.

Wells’ return provides versatility and length, though. He was optioned early this month due to a roster crunch, but when in the majors, he has done well. Wells has a 3.44 ERA in 18 1/3 innings.

The late scratch of Beavers carries its own questions. There wasn’t a moment in recent games that sticks out as a cause for Beavers’ oblique discomfort, but in general, the oblique can be a difficult injury for players to deal with. Beavers is hitting .243 this year.
