The Orioles placed another starting pitcher on the injured list.

Right-hander Chris Bassitt, who dealt with lower back discomfort during his last start, was placed on the 15-day injured list. The Orioles recalled right-hander Trey Gibson, who will start Monday’s series opener against the Mariners.

Gibson, a rookie, has started two games. In three appearances, he has a 3.65 ERA.

Bassitt left his start last week at Fenway Park after allowing three runs in three innings. He flew to Baltimore for a doctor’s appointment and, upon returning to the team in Toronto, reviewed opinions on his back. The result is a trip to the injured list.

In Monday’s weekly injury report, the Orioles said they are “getting a second opinion” on Bassitt, who declined to speak about the injury before Monday’s game.

“He’s looking at his options,” manager Craig Albernaz said.

Baltimore has three other starting pitchers on the shelf: right-handers Zach Eflin and Dean Kremer and left-hander Cade Povich. Kremer is scheduled to throw live batting practice later this week, while Povich is set to start throwing bullpen sessions.

Albernaz also explained that Samuel Basallo, who is not in Monday’s lineup, is dealing with a “bony growth” in his wrist. The catcher was pulled from the on-deck circle in Sunday’s loss to the Blue Jays.

“It’s going to be one of those things where it’s going to be uncomfortable. It’s something that he’s always had,” Albernaz said.
