Crowd chants ‘Let’s go, Foe!’ as Frances Tiafoe rolls into U.S. Open quarterfinals

The crowd chanted “Let’s go, Foe!” as Frances Tiafoe put on another show at the U.S. Open on Sunday.

The Maryland native and No. 11 men’s tennis player dominated No. 7 Daniil Medvedev, 7-6, 6-4, 7-6, in the fourth round.

Celebrities and athletes including No. 1 NBA draft pick AJ Dybantsa of the Washington Wizards and WNBA legend Lisa Leslie were in the stands of Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York cheering on the American tennis star.

In a post-match interview, Tiafoe said the “energy has been amazing” at the U.S. Open. “I’m loving it. Loving the energy, for sure.”

Tiafoe heads to the quarterfinals, where he will play fellow American Alex Michelsen on Tuesday.

The Hyattsville native has been a force at his home Grand Slam, reaching the U.S. Open semifinals in 2022 and 2024, with a quarterfinal appearance in 2023. He is 10-0 playing in Louis Armstrong Stadium.
