The Maryland State Police will investigate Brian Nadeau, the Baltimore Police deputy commissioner who was recently suspended, a city police spokesperson said.

Baltimore Police spokesperson Lindsey Eldridge said the state agency agreed to investigate Nadeau, who has overseen all internal investigations into alleged officer misconduct in the city.

Nadeau was suspended Tuesday and is under investigation, authorities have said. He is one of two deputy commissioners for Baltimore Police, the state’s largest law enforcement agency.

Commissioner Richard Worley previously said the allegations against Nadeau did not involve his work overseeing internal investigations, investigations, discipline or any cases.

Worley, Eldridge and Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott have declined to disclose the nature of the investigation into Nadeau.

Nadeau was with the FBI for more than two decades before joining Baltimore Police in 2019 to overhaul the agency’s handling of officers accused of wrongdoing by their peers or members of the public.
