    Route 140 in Westminster reopens days after powerful storm knocked utility poles onto road
    The State Highway Administration said Monday that all lanes of Route 140 have been reopened to traffic in the wake of a summer storm last week that sent utility poles onto vehicles on the roadway.

    ‘Vast majority’ of people still without power should have service restored tonight, BGE says
    It may take until the weekend to bring back power to some in Westminster who live near the area where between 20-30 utility poles were knocked down by the storm.

    BGE crews were working to restore power to thousands of customers in the Baltimore area after severe storms roared through the area Monday might, toppling trees and utility poles and causing widespread power outages. No injuries were reported.

    Maryland State Police said they were working to remove dozens of people from their vehicles after severe storms knocked down utility poles on Route 140 in Westminster, trapping them in their cars. BGE was working overnight to de-energize the power lines so that they can be removed from their cars.

    Baltimore, several counties under severe thunderstorm watch; ‘hazardous’ weather possible
    Much of Maryland is under a flood watch Sunday, according to the National Weather Service, and could see severe thunderstorms produce excessive rainfall and strong winds.

    Age-related macular degeneration is incurable, but Marylanders are getting better treatment for it now, physicians say.
    Debra Grigsby, 70, retired nurse from Carroll County, receives a shot in her eye from Dr. Lisa Schocket of the University of Maryland for age-related macular degeneration. The injection will slow the progression of the eye condition. It’s especially prevalent in older adults and has no cure — it can only be slowed. More people are getting diagnosed with the disease as a consequence of living longer.
