If your week started off with some frustration from yet another snow event, have no fear! There are plenty of ways to turn the week around, starting with getting outside and engaging in community events across Howard County.
For starters, February isn’t over yet and Howard County isn’t done celebrating Black History Month and Valentine’s Day.
Here are seven things to do for the week ending Wednesday.
Farm Friends Storytime & Play Group
11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday
Head over to Mary’s Land Farm greenhouse for a morning of reading and play. The morning starts off with a read-aloud story time followed by lots of exploring. A popular activity is the farm’s huge sandpit that features digging toys and tractors. Thursday’s event is free.
Valentine’s tea party
2-3 p.m. Friday
Want to celebrate Valentine’s Day one more time? Join the holiday merriment with an afternoon heart-day-themed tea party at the Ellicott City 50+ Center. Sip on a selection of teas and enjoy sweet treats with friends.
Black history expo
11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday
Close out Black History Month with an all-day community event featuring Divine Nine performances, live music and guest speakers at Long Reach High School. This year’s celebratory theme is “A Century of Black History Commemorations.”
Tales & Trails
11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sunday
The latest monthly meetup of Backwater Books’ Tales & Trails: Audiobook Walk is this Sunday. Put on your best walking shoes and get ready for a morning stroll while listening to a book or podcast along the Trolley Trail. After the walk, sip on some drinks back at Backwater Books’ Bibliopub and chat with fellow audiobook walkers about what you listened to on the trail.
Community Circle Sing
4-5:15 p.m. Sunday
Are you a seasoned singer or maybe shy when it comes to solo karaoke? Try circle singing this Sunday at the Savage Mill. Led by a vocal facilitator, attendees will play interactive vocal games and engage in call-and-response singing. Tickets are $25. Participation in circle singing is not required but is encouraged.
Art in the Afternoon
1:30-3 p.m. Wednesday
Spend an afternoon painting rocks at the Elkridge Branch of the Howard County Library System. The painting event is free, but registration is required. Registration closes at the start of the session. Attendees over age 14 are welcome.
Afrobeats Bash & Blend
6-8 p.m. Wednesday
The Columbia Association’s Supreme Sports Club will turn into an Afrobeats dance club on Wednesday night. Celebrating Afrobeats music and dance from all over Africa, attendees will first take an instructor-led dance class followed by an hour of fun featuring a DJ, raffles, games and local vendors.
