Happy CIAA weekend, Baltimore. Aside from the celebrations of historically Black college and university basketball and culture, this week’s hot ticket is Baltimore rock band Angel Du$t’s sold-out free concert Thursday night at Baltimore Soundstage.
If you miss out, don’t sweat it — there’s plenty to see and experience this weekend in the city.
Daphnique Springs

Fresh off her “LOL Live” Hulu special, Florida native Daphnique Springs will hit the Baltimore Comedy Factory stage all weekend to tell jokes about dating, millennial habits and more.

CIAA Fan Fest

The CIAA basketball tournament, expected to draw 150,000 to Baltimore this week, is about much more than hoops. This weekend, Charm City is the Mecca for HBCU fun and culture, and this free, two-day festival will provide the spirited soundtrack with a battle of the bands, a Greek step show and other high-energy performances.
Of course, basketball will get fans out of their seats, too. Check out the men’s and women’s tournament finales on Saturday afternoon.

Charm City Django Jazz Fest

In its 11th year, Baltimore’s annual celebration of acoustic guitar-driven jazz, popularized by Django Reinhardt in the 1930s, is expanding to include areas such as Washington and Berryville, Virginia.
But it’s simply not Django Jazz Fest without Charm City, which hosts the Baltimore leg at the Baltimore Museum of Art on Friday and the Bluebird Cocktail Room in Hampden on Saturday, with performances by Luca Pino, Natalie Hanna Mendoza and festival founder Michael Joseph Harris, among others. Act fast, because Saturday is already sold out.

Let your imagination run free at the latest performance by Baltimore experimental arts group Mind on Fire, a 45-minute electroacoustic concerto with amplified bassoon made “for all the indoor kids who love the earth and all the sweet weirdos” who live on it, according to Mind on Fire.

Jarhead Fertilizer and Dosser

Need local music? Jarhead Fertilizer, the punishing Ocean City-based metal band, headlines Metro Baltimore on Friday with support from Washington’s Blood Monolith. Then Baltimore’s Dosser and its mix of post-punk, grunge and shoegaze opens Saturday for GUV, the solo project of guitarist Ben Cook.

Transmission: A Celebration for Ann Everton

More than two dozen bands — including local stalwarts Celebration and War on Women — will honor the life and legacy of Ann Everton, the Baltimore musician and member of the band Darsombra, who died in an October car crash while on tour. “Her dedication to her work was a model for how to live,” artist Nicky Smith told The Banner last year.
