You might not know it from the plunging temperatures and blustery winds, but Friday is the official first day of spring.
Baltimore County is hosting a number of Easter and gardening events this week to remind you that warmer days are on the way. Here are seven events for the week straddling the vernal equinox and ending Wednesday, March 25.

Begins Friday, 2-7 p.m.
Hop over to The Shops at Kenilworth in Towson to take photos with the Easter Bunny, who will be in town through April 4. Reservations recommended.
Easter egg hunt
Saturday, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Spring is in the air at YourSpace Storage on Red Run Boulevard in Owings Mills, which is hosting a free Easter egg hunt. The event also features photos with the Easter Bunny and fun giveaways, including coloring books.
Can’t make it Saturday? St. Ursula Catholic Church on Harford Road in Parkville is hosting its own Easter egg hunt Sunday.
Make a Ukrainian Easter egg
Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Learn the art of pysanky — eggs decorated using an ancient wax-resist (or batik) method — at St. Joseph Parish on Church Lane in Cockeysville. Participants will create their own intricately decorated Ukrainian Easter eggs in workshops led by a Ukrainian American artist.
The event is open to people 18 and up. The cost is $40. Advance registration required.
Swing dancing
Saturday, 7:30-11:30 p.m.
Head to the Barn Theater at the Community College of Baltimore County’s Catonsville campus for a night of swing dancing, with live music by SK Jazz. The evening includes a beginner lesson followed by open dancing, making it perfect for both newcomers and experienced dancers. No partner needed — just bring your dancing shoes.
Admission is $15 for the general public and $12 for people over 64.
Paint party
Sunday at noon
Head to LoonAsea Maryland on Nanticoke Road in Essex for a relaxed paint party by the water. Create your own spring-themed doormats, charcuterie boards and more, while instructors guide you step-by-step. No experience is needed, and all supplies are provided. Tickets start at $33.85.
Women’s History Month collage
Sunday, noon-2:30 p.m.
Celebrate Women’s History Month at Manor Mill in Monkton with a hands-on collage workshop led by Sky Queen Studio. Participants will create a custom piece inspired by a notable woman’s words, using upcycled materials to craft a framed 8 by 10 artwork. The cost of the event is $65.
Plants workshop
Sunday, 4-6 p.m.
Learn how to incorporate native plants into your yard at a free talk by Patty Mochel, a certified Maryland master gardener and Maryland master naturalist at Hunt’s Memorial United Methodist Church on Old Court Road in Towson. The presentation will offer practical, step-by-step guidance on choosing trees, shrubs and plants that support local wildlife. Attendees also will receive plant lists and resources for sourcing native species in Maryland.
