The father of Turnstile lead singer Brendan Yates introduced the band over a video message at Coachella on Friday night, almost two weeks after the band’s former guitarist, Brady Ebert, allegedly hit him with a car.
The 79-year-old Maryland dad, Bill Yates, said over the festival speakers he was a “proud father of Brendan” but that the members of Turnstile “were all sons of mine.” He mentioned the hard-core band had been practicing at their home in Silver Spring for about a dozen years.
“To all the fans out there, we love you and Turnstile loves you, and enjoy the ride,” Bill Yates said to the crowd.
Moments later, Turnstile took the stage and played “Never Enough” from its 2025 album that has the same name. It was the first album released without Ebert, who separated from the group in 2022.
Over a week ago, Ebert, 33, was taken into custody by the Montgomery County Police Department on charges of attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault. The police allege he intentionally drove into Bill Yates. Yates suffered severe leg injuries.
During an initial hearing, Ebert alleged he was attacked and he acted in self-defense.
Brendan Yates, who has known Ebert since they were children, said he and his other bandmates once sought restraining orders against the ex-Turnstile guitarist but their requests were denied.
