Dive crews with the Baltimore City Fire Department pulled a person from the Inner Harbor outside of the National Aquarium late Friday afternoon.

The call for a water rescue came in around 5 p.m., said Niki Fennoy, a spokesperson for the Baltimore Police Department.

Dozens of people stood by the water’s edge as crews pulled the person out around 5:10 p.m., shortly after fire trucks and ambulances arrived at the scene. The person was rescued from the water near Pier 3, close to the aquarium’s Harbor Wetland.

The individual was transported from the area by ambulance. Their condition wasn’t immediately known.

A handful of people have been rescued and recovered from the Inner Harbor in the past year. A 56-year-old man was rescued in May, and a month earlier, the body of 27-year-old Branson Oduor, who went missing for more than a week, was recovered.

Some people have campaigned for railings around the harbor over the years. During the development of the Inner Harbor, officials decided against railings out of concern people would sit on them, endangering themselves.

Conversations around building railings were renewed following Oduor’s death.
