The Wine Collective, one of Baltimore’s only urban wineries, announced on Friday that it will close after seven years of business.
The Medfield-based business, housed inside the Union Collective complex, opened in March 2020 at the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Its last day open to the public is March 15.
“From the start, we were navigating uncertainty,” a post from The Wine Collective said. “And yet, through grit (some might say stubbornness), creativity, extraordinary partners, an unstoppable team, and a community that kept showing up, this place became something far greater than we imagined.”
The winery didn’t immediately respond to a request for additional comment.
The Wine Collective created its own wine and vermouth inside its large production space. Its tasting room was situated in the center of its winery for patrons to gather. Alongside its original beverages, the business served an array of pintxos and tapas.
The concept of the business, “where making and feasting could witness one another in real time,” started being built in 2019, according to The Wine Collective’s announcement.
The Wine Collective hosted community events, live music and cooking classes. You can still catch some tunes at The Wine Collective on March 11, 12 or 15.
Its owners encouraged customers to come by for a last glass or to stock up on their wines and vermouths “for future tables and future toasts.”
